The Bulgarian National Audit Office has been elected as Auditor of EUROSAI for the audit period 2017-2019 during the Xth EUROSAI Congress which was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 22 to 24 May 2017. Our candidature was supported by 25 of the 40 participating SAIs in the Congress.

Bulgaria has been a member of EUROSAI since 1990, the Bulgarian National Audit Office-since 2002, but now is the first time that we take a mandate position in the Organisation, where 49 European SAIs and the European Court of Auditors are members.

Our delegation was led by the President of the Bulgarian Nation Audit Office, Mr. Tzvetan Tzvetkov.

In accordance with the Statutes of EUROSAI, there must be two Auditors. The other Auditor of EUROSAI is the SAI of Croatia. The Croatian SAI was elected for the position for the second consecutive time, following its first mandate together with the SAI of Israel.

According to the EUROSAI Financial Rules, each Auditor’s mandate is for three years and includes the financial year in which the Auditors are appointed by the Congress and the subsequent two years.

The two Auditors audit the accounts and financial management of the Organisation and report to the Governing Board and to the Congress.

The main objectives of the Organisation are to promote professional cooperation among SAI members, to encourage the exchange of information and documentation, to advance the study of public sector audit and to work towards the harmonisation of terminology in the field of public audit.
