For the first time, the Bulgarian National Audit Office is hosting a summit which kicks off the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Development of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions’ (INTOSAI) Framework of Professional Pronouncements. The Framework of Professional Pronouncements of INTOSAI defines all the general principles, standards and guidelines by which the Supreme Audit Institutions around the world operate.
The Forum is held from 25 to 29 November in Sofia and is attended by representatives of more than ten countries from all INTOSAI bodies involved in the development of international auditing standards. Among the guests is Mrs. Helga Berger, member of the European Court of Auditors.
The Strategic Plan encompasses 5 initiatives aimed at updating INTOSAI's principles and increasing the accessibility and clarity of INTOSAI's auditing standards. This will improve the effectiveness of the professional work of auditors around the world and at the same time will contribute to a greater usefulness of the performed audits for the citizens and the institutions. The improvement of auditing standards is also a way to find appropriate professional solutions to global common challenges worldwide, as well as their application in different legal systems and types of audit institutions.
The application of INTOSAI principles, standards and guidelines is a fundamental prerequisite for objectivity in the audit work, which is of key importance to high trust in the work of supreme audit institutions. This was stated by Ms. Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, Acting President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, who opened the forum. She emphasized that it is the trust of the public and the audited organizations in the audit institutions that contributes to the process of acceptance and implementation of their recommendations, and this leads to the most important result of the audits – improvement of the quality of public services and the lives of citizens.
In order to be of maximum benefit to the society, it is particularly important for the Bulgarian National Audit Office to promptly update its audit methodology and implement the most effective and proven international practices in the audit process, said Ms Grancharova..
The forum is also attended by Mr. Toma Donchev, member from Bulgaria of the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements and Director of the Audit Activity Development Directorate of the Bulgarian National Audit Office.
