Maria Ilieva was elected by the National Assembly as a member of the Bulgarian National Audit Office for a seven-year term. Her candidacy was supported by 119 out of 149 Members of Parliament who participated in the vote.

Her nomination was submitted by the Governing Board of the Institute of Internal Auditors Bulgaria and was presented to the National Assembly by the President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, Mr. Dimitar Glavchev.

Maria Ilieva has over 25 years of professional experience, including more than 15 years in the fields of auditing, financial management, and control. She has served as an internal auditor at the Agency for State Internal Financial Control, auditor at the Bulgarian National Audit Office, and head of internal audit units at both the Financial Supervision Commission and the Ministry of Energy. In the past four years, she worked as an auditor at a commercial company.

She was also a Member of the 44th National Assembly and chaired the Permanent Subcommittee on Public Sector Accountability to the Budget and Finance Committee.

Maria Ilieva is a certified internal auditor in the public sector, accredited by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria. She also holds an international internal auditor certificate issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (USA).

Maria Ilieva was sworn in before the National Assembly.
