On 7th of January 2010, Philippe Séguin, First President of France’s Court of Financial Auditors (Cour des Comptes), suddenly died in Paris at the age of 66. Philippe Séguin was an impressive man and an influential figure in French politics. His career in the Audit Institution began in July 2004. He performed his duties of First President until his death.
More than two decades Mr. Seguin was member of the Parliament, representing the social tradition of the Gaullism. From 1993 to 1997 Mr. Philippe Séguin was a President of the National Assembly of France. As First President of the Cour des Comptes he will be remembered with his contribution to the modernization of France's public finance system.
Prof. Valeriy Dimitrov, President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, sent a telegram of condolence to the Cour des Comptes on the occasion of the death of Mr. Philippe Séguin.
