The Bulgarian National Audit Office presented its 2022 Annual Awards

The Bulgarian National Audit presented its annual awards for auditors and partners for the year 2022. Upon proposal of the BNAO Board, this year’s awards were handed over to the winners by BNAO partner institutions and former Heads in recognition of their continued support and cooperation.     

The Governor of the National Social Security Institute Ivaylo Ivanov handed over the 2022 Auditor of the Year Award to Aneliya Mitreva, Chief auditor at the Financial Audits Directorate I. The prize was awarded for her proven professionalism, professional competence, commitment and teamwork that contribute for improving public sector accountability. In the course of her audits, she found misstatements amounting to BGN 213 086 958, BGN 161 989 804 of which were corrected during the financial audits. She was also part of the international team that audited the EUROSAI financial statement for 2021.           

Stefan Belchev, Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency, handed over the 2022 Audit Team Award to the audit team that carried out the audit of the financial statement of the Mineralni bani municipality, Haskovo district - Nikolinka Ivanova, Chief auditor and Team leader; Stoyan Nalbantov, Chief auditor; Lyudmil Alexandrov, Chief auditor and Lozko Lozev, Senior auditor – second degree. The 2021 audit of the annual financial statement of Mineralni bani municipality was carried out with high level of professionalism and has contributed for achieving the BNAO Strategic Goals.          

The 2022 Leader of the Year Award was presented by the BNAO Members Emil Evlogiev and Prof. Georgi Ivanov to Tatiana Bagachka, Director of the Financial Audits Directorate I, and Julia Kachkova, Director of the Financial Audits Directorate II. The prize was awarded for high level of professionalism, incl. quality control of the audit reports, their continuous efforts for developing the administrative capacity of auditors, as well as for establishing an ethical and good working environment. A sociological study showed that financial audits are the most recognizable of the institution's activities in terms of citizens awareness.           

The 2022 Partner of the Year Award was presented by the BNAO former Presidents Lidia Roumenova (2014-2015) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Nikolov (1995-2005) to Prof. Boris Velchev, Rector of the University of Finance, Insurance, Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (VUZF), and to Dimitrina Zaharinova, Managing Partner of Zaharinova Nexia Ltd., for the effective cooperation provided in terms of training highly qualified specialists in the field of auditing and economics. VUZF and Zaharinova Nexia Ltd. also support the progress of the auditor profession by organizing the national contest "Young Auditor” that contributes to the professional and career development of young people.
